Located in the residential layout of Sanjaynagar, The project is surrounded by Apartments and tall Housing towers on all sides. It housed an existing old bungalow with fully grown trees, The brief was to design a home for a young creative couple who loved nature, with ample amount of light and ventilation, a minimalistic architectural design,  with most of its spaces opening to an external garden area. A lot of emphasis was given to retain all the existing trees as well as in having large balconies opening to the garden area.

Nestled in the tranquil neighbourhood of Bhoopasandra, Bengaluru, this house is thoughtfully designed to create its own micro-environment. Upon arrival, the house remains partially hidden behind a lush tree canopy, with its brick façade gracefully retreating into the natural surroundings, using the trees as a protective screen.

The entrance is marked by a cool, shaded front yard, enriched by the verdant canopies of retained existing trees. This inviting outdoor space seamlessly connects to a small sit out area, allowing residents to step out directly from the living room, fostering a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor living. This design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also provides a serene retreat amidst the bustling urban landscape.

Planning:

The open plan of this house allows spaces to flow seamlessly into one another, creating an inviting atmosphere for large family gatherings. The linear arrangement of the front yard, living area, dining space, and backyard encourages a natural extension into the surrounding green pockets.

Materials:

The hollow clay blocks used in the walls helps create a stable and comfortable living environment through out the year. The use of bricks in the balconies to create jalis parapet walls creates the perfect visual barrier from the road to the inside but also allowing the winds to pass through.

The double-height brick wall in the dining area adds a warm, earthy feel to the home, enhancing its inviting atmosphere. Complemented by greenery that filters in through openings, this design creates a harmonious blend of nature and comfort, enriching the overall experience of the space.

Daylighting and Ventilation:

The linear design of the house, combined with strategically placed large openings at both ends, promotes effective natural ventilation. This layout allows for cross-ventilation, enabling airflow to be adjusted according to seasonal needs. The skylights provided in heart of the house brings in a lot of daylight through out the day, keeping the spaces bright and serene.
